Construction of the Václav Multifunctional Building Begins in Ostrava

22. 1. 2025 / A modern building is starting to take shape in the historic center of Ostrava, filling a long-vacant lot. From 2027, it will offer a combination of residential, commercial, and office spaces.

The development group Antracit, part of the investment holding PURPOSIA Group, has launched the main phase of construction for the Václav multifunctional building and has opened reservations for premium office and retail spaces in a shell & core standard—ideal for businesses and entrepreneurs seeking a prestigious headquarters or storefront in the city center. The project will also include the revitalization of surrounding public spaces. The general contractor for the construction, which is set to become one of the city’s most attractive addresses in 2027, is IMOS Brno, a.s. The project was designed by architect Vít Klimeš from the ARKOS architectural firm, while the implementation documentation was prepared by Chválek Ateliér s.r.o. The total cost of the project is estimated at around half a billion CZK.

The land where the Václav building is being constructed was originally intended for development, but due to complex zoning and property ownership issues, it remained unused for many years. The Antracit development group acquired the land from its previous owner, along with the original project and zoning permit. “The project underwent a highly complicated zoning approval process in the past, and a similar process was required for the building permit. However, we used this period primarily to prepare the site and conduct an archaeological survey, which lasted approximately a year and a half. This is an important archaeological site, so we were happy to provide access to archaeologists, even though it increased construction costs by more than ten million CZK. The National Heritage Institute documented and removed all samples and artifacts of significance to their research,” says Jan Hasík, CEO of the PURPOSIA Group investment holding.

In addition to the archaeological survey, site preparation was already underway in 2023, with the first phase managed by HSF System. This included soil compaction, a key step for initiating major construction work, as well as the relocation of utility networks. The general contractor, IMOS Brno, has since taken over construction. In recent weeks, temporary transformer stations have been installed on Střelniční Street to supply power to surrounding buildings. These transformers will be dismantled after construction is completed and permanently relocated within the Václav building.

Over the next three months, the project will focus on constructing the building’s substructure, including Milan-type retaining walls, which will ensure excavation stability, minimize the impact of construction on the surrounding environment, and serve as foundation walls for the building. The completion of the building’s structural framework is scheduled for March 2025, while the full realization of the Václav project is expected in the first half of 2027.
